Connor Kenton Jr. feels so real in his quiet frustration and need to do right by the town, and that makes him easy to root for. Annie Flynn has this heavy, lived in edge that instantly commands attention what has this work already cost her, and how much more is she willing to lose? when things turn truly dangerous, will connor rise to annie’s level, or will annie have to slow down to protect him?

This chapter really shines in the contrast between Connor’s earnest, slightly overwhelmed optimism and Annie’s grounded, weary professionalism, which makes their partnership instantly compelling. The motel scene and Tulvir’s death were especially powerful; the Veil-thread details made the magic feel systemic and haunting rather than flashy. I also loved how Millpoint feels alive and fragile, like the town itself is holding its breath.   I’m really curious, was Tulvir kneeling because he recognized and trusted his killer, or was that position part of something ritualistic?

Thank you for your feedback! I guess I'll need to keep an eye out for comments now that I've realized my writing is actually public. Tulvir's kneeling is a bit of both actually, and I plan to elaborate on that further as the story unfolds!

Ooo, okay, I like that it’s a mix that makes Tulvir’s kneeling way more interesting. I’m excited to see how you expand on that as the story goes on. Keep writing, you’re doing great! I got really invested in your story and ended up coming up with some plot ideas. Is there a way we could discuss them?
