Ali was seated at the dining table, an open ancient tome rested in front of her along with a journal. Her chair was one she had drug through the portal to her Academy rooms. The back was structured to not impinge on her tails, but still provide her back support.
"Right… The mana draw is fine. I can feel the levels and there's no inherent resistance. I should be able to add the pocket between the cushions, but it won't take. Think, Ali… whatcha missin' girl."
With a small push, she pulled up an amber construct of the sofa. She rotated it, studied it, and ultimately sighed.
"Wood, pine specifically, steel, cotton, polyester, crumbs, dirt. All normal stuff. Maybe there's something hidden. A slow mana shunt might…"
A silver sheen started to coat the construct. After a few moments, her ears perked up. Small voids started to appear.
She gestured and the construct rotated. The voids, four in total, appeared on just one of the wooden arm supports. With a flick of her fingers that portion was isolated and started to expand.
"Well, well, what's this?" The dark patches resolved into specific characters. "生活—'Life', 幸福—'Happiness', 保护—'Protect', and 捍—'Ward'. It looks like the maker wanted to imbue positive aspects here." She stood and walked over to the sofa, the construct trailing behind her. She crouched beside the arm and concentrated on the characters. On the construct they began to glow yellow with a touch of green.
She smiled. "So ya are active, nice to know." Gently she began casting again. She acknowledged and reinforced the maker's enchantments as she added the pocket dimension that her tails could slip into. Softly she intoned, "为了狐狸精尾巴的安慰 (Chinese: For the comfort of a fox-spirit's tails)." And the characters joined those already present. She rose from her crouch and regarded the couch for a moment. Then she turned and gently sat, smiling in joy as her tails slipped into a comfortable pocket of other-space.
"Much better." She tucked her legs under herself, sitting in quiet contemplation of their home. Her home.
